I would use a wiki when organizing a large project on a specific topic. I would instruct the students, who would be working in groups, to use wiki to communicate. I would also like to instruct the students to keep a blog throughout the year about things that interest them and how those things will relate to their adult life. I would specify the boundaries of the blog and keep up with them. They would also require them to post their electronic assignments to their blog. This will give them an opportunity at the end of each semester to present their blog to the class for extra credit.
I think Social bookmarking is a brilliant thing. This is a simple tool that can make things easier for people that work for large corporations all the way to teachers who would like to share their findings. It’s so simple and user friendly. Students can benefit greatly from social bookmarking. Especially, since students these days are so comfortable with the internet and computer. This tool is a personal library of web addresses. This is a great way for teachers to communicate a large stream of information to many students. Social bookmarking is life made simple. I also really like the idea of a voice thread. This is another tool that will allow teachers to transfer information consistently to many people. I am definitely interested in creating a voice thread. I believe that I can make it personal and inventive, allowing students to stay interested.
Personally, I really enjoyed this week’s activities. I found that things like blogs, wiki and voice threads were not as intimidating as I originally thought. I am more comfortable with jumping into current technological trends. Most everything that was presented this week was new to me. I have heard a lot of things about blogs, but I have never done one myself. I also have seen wiki in response to my Google attempts, but I guess I never realized what wiki was. I am excited to continue to explore.
